What to Expect During Osteopathy Treatment

First Visit

During the first visit, we will review your health history. This will include medical history as well as lifestyle routines such as diet, exercise, workplace conditions, etc.

Afterward, we will do a postural assessment, range of motion testing, and palpation of the muscles and joints to make an osteopathic diagnosis.  Palpation is a hands-on diagnostic tool used to test the quality of the tissues and to feel for tender points or trigger points. This may elicit some pain if there is an underlying issue but it will be as brief and gentle as possible.

We do not make medical diagnosis. This needs to be done by your doctor.

Tests to Determine the Cause of Knee Pain

Depending on the type of condition you have, we may need to do some additional tests to rule out if there may be any contraindications for osteopathic treatment. If your circumstances are more suitable for another type of therapy you will be referred to your doctor or another practitioner. A personalized treatment plan will be devised for you and afterward, there should be time for a short treatment.

The initial visit will last approximately one hour long.

What To Wear

Osteopathic treatment, MPS and Concussion Recovery Therapy is done with your clothing on. Please wear loose, comfortable clothes, such as shorts and a t-shirt or stretch athletic wear. There is a washroom to change in if needed.

For MPS treatment, the microcurrent devices can work through one layer of thin fabric, but it is much better to be on the skin. Shorts and a tshirt or tank top are best.

Follow-Up Visit

The follow-up visits will consist of treatment according to the plan set out in the initial visit. They will consist of a brief assessment of your progress followed by a treatment. The sessions will generally be a combination of both osteopathic techniques and Microcurrent Point Stimulation Therapy as the situation dictates.
