Upper Back Pain?

Are you suffering from upper back pain and can’t figure out why? Suppose you haven’t had any injuries to the area. How is your posture? Do you have a job that negatively encourages you to roll your shoulders forward all day like working at a computer or cutting hair? This can also happen due to all the texting on our mobile phones we do now. A possible source for this upper back and neck pain might not originate with your back at all but with the muscles of your chest, specifically the pectoralis muscles.

Now technically they are not “chest muscles” because they don’t act on the chest but the shoulder. They are located on the chest however. Poor posture from certain jobs and constant mobile phone use can develop overly tight pec muscles. When they are too tight they constantly pull on the shoulders and therefore can cause a lot of tension in the muscles of the upper back such as the rhomboids, which attach the shoulder blades to the spine.

Taking pain killers might temporarily mask the pain, but they won’t correct the problem. If you are suffering from this issue, I can help you with manual osteopathy at Vivify Holistic Clinic.
